Izr. prof. dr.

Rok Svetlič began his studies at the Faculty of Law in 1992. In 1994, he undertook a parallel study of philosophy at the Faculty of Arts of Ljubljana. He completed the studies at both faculties. He is associate professor at Science and Research Centre – Koper where he works as researcher. Although philosophy is the basis of his research work, his double education always steered him to the problems on the borderline between philosophy and jurisprudence. His first research set was devoted to the issue of legitimation of coercion in postmodernism, which, due to the lack of meta-discourse, puts political morality into a new position. The results of the research were published in the monograph entitled “Two Questions of Contemporary Ethics” (2003). Subsequently, he applied himself to the study of Ronald Dworkin’s legal philosophy, which was also the topic of his doctoral dissertation (“Ronald Dworkin’s Philosophy of Law”, published in 2008). In 2009, his monograph entitled “The Philosophy of Human Rights” was published. The emphasis, however, is not on the legal and historical aspects of the development of human rights in individual declarations; rather, the emphasis is on the definition of the very image of man and of the world which renders the addressee of these rights capable of autonomous activity in the field of political morality. In the next year (2010), he published the book, titled »Selected chapter from political morality«. Recently (2015) the monograph »To Endure the being of the World – Ontology of Law nad state« was published. German translation of this work will be published in this year also at Koenigshausen-Neumann Verlag.
